Urgently needed: space to work on 23’ crown sloop ( approx. 2-3 month)

The Puffin, original build in North Vancouver as a mould for the 23’ crown (an alternative to the 24’ calvin ) and later on modified into a boat, is past 50 years old, yet somehow I don’t want to see her die.  At present she is leaking 3-4 gallons per hour.

Build out of cedar strips it was never a completely dry boat, but it has been a long time since she has been on dry land for long overdue repairs and replacement of some of the old wood.

Thanks to modern Epoxy she could be restored.

The boat has a beautiful design. Close to the water she can be a very lively sloop and a real pleasure to sail her.

If it wasn’t for the love of wooden boats and the enjoyment she can provide…

So I’m more then willing to work to get the old sloop seaworthy again…,all it takes is the right place and the right time (which should be soon…).

The “Puffin”  needs a space on dry land for the winter where I can work to restore her. I’m very flexible and willing to negotiate. Should you be able to help get in touch with me:        andreasmauer@ymail.com

For the longest time I dreamt about sailing, but was always under the assumption that this was a pastime for rich people only.

My dream never died and  to sail I only needed wind and isn’t that still free?

So I got myself a little sloop  (a 23’ Crown build in the late 1950’s in Vancouver, from which the “Puffin” is an original plug made out of cedar strips and was used as a mould).  Well, sailing may be inexpensive, but a boat  (Bring On Another Thousand) is like a hole on the ocean you periodically throw money in.

Maybe we can help one another. There are a few sailors willing to share their boat and time in exchange for some help with the up-keep and expenses.

We are not talking yacht club here & the luxury associated with those. We are talking about the adventure, excitement and thrill that comes with sailing.

No high priced tourist package, but a good time by donation. No regular tours, you make your own plans and we try to accommodate you.  Just let me know  what you have in mind, when would you like to sail , what would you like to sail… where would you like to go to and for how long … and…

It has often been observed that common crises create common bonds. While people seek advantage during the times of prosperity, shared suffering tends to draw people closer together. We have seen this behaviour repeated time and time again throughout the times of flood, famine, fire, or other natural disasters. Once the threat is resolved, however, scarcity patterns once again begin to steer people back to their behaviours of seeking individual advantage.
Canada  and large parts of the rest of the world seems to follow the U.S. blindly. Whether it’s under Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton, Bush Jr, or Obama, the policies have remained the same and  it’s time to ditch those policies we have come to tolerate for decades before they consume what is left of our moral core.

Reminders to myself

If to be poor and content is to be rich, I still got a long road ahead of me.

This blog is to be a combination of writing a diary, communicating with friends, advertising the pleasure of sailing, sharing interesting information  and creating a platform to connect with like minded people. It works best with feedback. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not looking for attention, approval or praise, but would like  some honest critics or suggestions. In a world of mistrust, fear and alienation towards your fallow man I feel a growing need to re-establish out-dated values. Love, peace and happiness isn’t something out of a fairy tale, it is a concept that is definitely worthwhile to pursue.The most important in life shouldn’t be what we can get out of it, but what we can contribute. I’m afraid instead of setting a good example, my own faults and short comings are misleading at times. Yet, the desire to improve and to change, to become a better man is stronger the older I get and that too is one of the reasons I started this blog.

How can we call ourselves civilized, when we still live in a society that is based on war, corruption and greed. Perfect conditions for a reality which has been the way of the world since the ages… and the world was about money…& profit …that would lead you to power and riches. Established only by false believes a human behaviour pattern was created  based on a money equals power economy, with corruption as it’s cornerstone. Perfect conditions in nature became natural enemies to such a profit-based society. Abundance, sufficiency and sustainability needed to be destroyed in order to profit big.

Instead of unconditional love towards one another we learned how to alienate through social standards, developed a self-serving attitude and followed an illusion. To strengthen this misconception, good minds, good ideas became outlawed. With no concern for our own kin we turned our back to nature and subscribed to this false man-made reality and called it civilization.

In order to gain “ riches”  this age killed of all natural abundance and is still destroying the last remaining resources. In the name of progress, profit and power, humanity is killing itself and there is absolutely no reason. The fear of scarcity is artificial. This system must go or we will never be free. A true gift to humans is the capability to create with scientific ingenuity better living conditions. We must be open to new ideas, alternatives and better solutions. Technology is responsible for a better lifestyle not money or politics. So, the old age has to die to give way to a new understanding. We are in need of a new reality that centers on our close connection with this earth and our close connection with each other.

There is no control in nature, only a fine balance we became unaware off. We do not need to continue on a road that leads nowhere. Already we found many ways to improve our lives without being enslaved by money.  There is absolutely no reason but pure corrupt profit interest why we can’t have clean renewable energy, why we can’t feed and shelter everyone on this planet. The Technology is available.

Imagine that this (only by false believes) created and established human behaviour in us,… the way we are suppose to behave as civilized man, can be changed . The social awareness is changing. Abundance, sufficiency and sustainability are possible for all of us, as long as we don’t paralyze growth by selfish thoughts of illusionary riches.

 Imagine that more and more people will wake up to embrace this older then time principle to love one another rather then follow this hallow dream of self-indulgence. Then and only then will we be able to get rid of a unbalanced sick way of life and become civilized.

Imagine all the people… I’m hoping for my children’s children sake that we are able to change and develop better values, a better way of being. To become aware of the lies and falseness of the ages is the first step to end it…

Is oil the root of all evil?–…

…or is it our desire  to live as powerful and comfortable as possible.  How important is your level of comfort, when it comes with an enormous price tag, the possible destruction of live on this planet. We are at war over the last remaining resources, rather then unite and find alternative solutions to nurture this home planet  and the survival of man-kind. Will we end up another civilization that self-destruct and varnished in it’s prime?

We are not yet aware of the consequences of our our constant and ignorant interference with this fine-tuned balance in nature we have on this Earth (or we like to ignore the obvious out of convenience).

Ignorance is not bliss, but will punish us all along the way.
